A Personal Note as the Year Wraps Up

Hi friends,

We made it to the last day of the year!

I’ve been doing something I do every December: reading a letter I wrote to my future self.

Did you know you could write a letter to your future self? It's through a website called FutureMe

Last year’s letter absolutely wrecked me—in the best way. At the time, we were standing on the edge of so much uncertainty. We thought retirement was coming. We didn’t know what life would look like next. And while some of those plans didn’t unfold the way we imagined (turns out… he isn’t retiring after all), reading that letter reminded me just how far I’ve come in a year I didn’t fully understand while I was living it.

I want that moment for you, too.

If you’ve never done it, I gently invite you to write a letter to your future self using FutureMe. Say the honest things. Write the hopes, the worries, the quiet dreams you don’t always say out loud. One year from now, you’ll be grateful you did—I promise. It's wild how much can change in a year!

Before we step into a new year, I also want to say thank you. Truly. Thank you for being here, for reading, clicking, replying, and sticking around through a year that was both beautiful and chaotic on my end.

A small behind-the-scenes note: my website did crash in November. Silly me thought I could change the theme of it without any issues, boy was I wrong!

The only posts that were lost were the ones I wrote between this summer and November—but thankfully, nothing disappeared forever. It's been hellacious making sure all posts were updated too though. WHOOSH! I've never worked harder than in the past three weeks!

I had everything saved in Microsoft Word (future me was very grateful for past me), so now it’s just a matter of rebuilding, formatting, and breathing life back into those stories. (Please don't ask what happened to my backup on my site, LOL)

So if my website looks a little crazy or leads you to a "OPPS! WE CAN'T FIND THAT PAGE" sort of thing, let me know! Between traveling and real life, it’s taken time—but it’s all coming back together.

And honestly, there’s a lot to write about.

This year took me to Jordan, Ireland, Poland, and Morocco. I hiked more routes than I can count through the Dolomites and Veneto—quiet trails, challenging climbs, familiar ridgelines, and a few moments that reminded me exactly why I keep coming back to the mountains. It’s shaping up to be a really fun writing season, and I can’t wait to share more of it with you.

Looking ahead, next year’s adventures are already starting to take shape. There’s a move on the horizon (I’m not quite ready to admit where just yet), and travel plans that include California, Madeira, Jordan (again!), the Opal Coast Trail in northern France, and Georgia in October with my friend Laura Ericson. I am slated to go to TBEX Kazakhstan—I’m a little on the fence about it because if we are in our new home by then, I *think* I want to enjoy just being in our new place.

In 2026, I also plan to start helping people with their travel itineraries and custom trip planning. You'll be the first to know when this goes live!

As we head into 2026, I’d genuinely love to hear from you:
Do you have any big plans coming up?
Trips you’re dreaming about?
A season of rest you’re protecting?
Or something you’re quietly working toward?

Hit reply if you feel like sharing—I read every response.

Here’s to reflection, to resilience, and to writing things down even when we don’t know how the story will unfold yet.

Cheers to 2026—and to you and yours.

Warmly,
Kimberly

P.S. If you do write that letter to your future self, let me know. I’ll be quietly cheering you on.
