Supporting Local While Living Abroad
A Cooking Experience I HAVE to share with you
@Reader
Just a quick update—I’ve switched to a new platform for newsletters, so things might look a little different around here!
In the spirit of supporting local businesses, I wanted to share an article I recently wrote that was just published by Stars and Stripes (exciting!)
I’ve been volunteering at a local restaurant lately, helping with their social media and building a collection of photos they can use.
Trattoria all’Angelo is a beautiful restaurant not far from Vicenza, serving up some of the best food around.
Mauro and Bari offer incredible culinary experiences, such as herb foraging, truffle hunting, and even sharpening your kitchen skills (see what I did there?).
You can also enjoy a delicious dinner there or even plan a special event with them!
And you’ll never guess one of their upcoming experiences—How to Build an Earth Oven! How cool is that? They are bringing in a local expert from Padova that will be designing an earth oven on the property and will showcase how YOU can build one at your own home.
Could you imagine making pizzas here?
Check out the piece I wrote for Stars and Stripes Europe, Feel free to share it with anyone heading to Venice, the Dolomites, Verona, or Vicenza.

Military spouse, mid-life solo traveler, slow adventurer, and your personal hype woman for booking the ticket and going anyway. After years of living abroad and hiking my way through Italy, Korea, Poland (and beyond), I’ve learned that you don’t need permission, a travel partner, or a “perfect time” to explore the world — you just need a little courage and a decent pair of shoes. It's never too late. Solo travel isn’t selfish. And confidence? It’s something you build — one trail, one flight, one empowering trip at a time.
