What Is It Really Like to Stay in a Dolomites Mountain Hut?

Hey Friend!

This week, I’m taking you inside what it's like to stay in a rifugio and sharing exactly how you can plan your own stay in a mountain hut in the Dolomites.

I still remember the first time I stayed in a rifugio, muddy boots, warm polenta, and a sunset I’ll never forget. Rifugi are one of my favorite ways to experience the Dolomites.

My Favorite Rifugio in the Dolomites:

🏔️ Meet Rifugio Scotoni
Tucked beneath the peaks near Lagazuoi, this rifugio stole my heart. You’ll find alpacas grazing outside, a fire-warmed dining room, and mountain views that feel unreal. They really lean into their Ladin heritage and you can feel it in EVERYTHING they do!

Scotoni has won awards for it's water, bottled at the source and is renowned for their grilled meats.

This was one of my favorite rifugios in the dolomites, it's one YOU need to plan on visiting too!

My tips:

Staying in a rifugio isn’t like booking a regular hotel — and you’ll want to be prepared.

What’s inside:

  • What sleeping & bathrooms are actually like
  • How to book (no, not on Booking.com)
  • What to pack
  • Meals, mountain etiquette & my own trail stories

Of course if that's not your thing, I have a great round up of my favorite hotels in the Dolomites that you can read (here)

P.S. My Jordan Group Trip is Still Happening
I’ve gotten a few messages asking — and yes, the Jordan trip is still ON. While there’s unrest elsewhere in the Middle East, Jordan is not affected and remains safe to visit.

I’m in constant contact with my guide on the ground, and the trip is fully refundable if anything changes.

You’ll hike Petra’s back trails, stargaze in Wadi Rum, and share meals with local women. It’s going to be powerful.
